Well, first of all, thanks to Isaac for putting in so much time with the posts while the rest of us play on youtube and send post cards.
Another simultaneous post so I apologize for any overlapping. But this will be short.
Glacier is simply amazing. The most beautiful place I've ever gotten to see. We've lost of cable for the camera so hold on until we get those pics up ( and maybe a video - I strapped my camera to my helmet for the decent).
We've met a ton of other cyclists going coast to coast or up to Alaska in the last few days. Glacier is a top stop for a lot of people, obviously. We spent two nights on the west side of the divide waiting for Logan's pass to open. A storm last November had wiped the road out and construction was delaying the opening. No problem for us though as we enjoyed the rest and time to play in the park. We managed to only fit in one hike to Avalanche Lake which was totally satisfying.
They kick cyclists off the road between 11-4 so we were forced to hangout on the shoulder of the prettiest road in the world for 5 hours... again, not a huge problem... I managed to squeeze in a nap not 12 inches from a tremendous cliff edge. The pass still hadn't opened when we finally arrived at the top (again, out highest pass of the trip but it would be to beautiful to bomb on the descent). After some mac and cheese and conversation with the handful of other cyclists waiting at the top we were able to ride down the east side. Camped at Rising Sun and hung out with a solo rider going west (Chris).
Yesterday we left Glacier and watched the Rockies start to fade. Today they are no longer visible and we are screaming east on hwy 2 averaging almost 20 mph( our highest so far). We are attempting to ride 125 miles today, 55 more than any previous day. Strong west winds and table top flat lands are boosting our confidence as we try and get out of Montana in less than 2 weeks.
The climbs in the first few weeks really whipped us into shape. Our biggest expense is food. It's incredible how much we are eating... almost constantly. That and postcards, which have become an addiction. Time is sparse though as we are riding, eating, or setting up camp most of the day. Hope everyone out there is well. We are hoping to hit Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, Minneapolis (Fairbault(sp?), actually), Madison, and then Chicago.... but, as always, we shall see. Mahalo. ~cwm

"Hey, are you guys playing Pass the Pigs?" lol
Such a random encounter, but what a great group of individuals. I am so happy that I happened upon your campground. Thanks for the Sparks... and Connor... you owe me a pink nalgene (or maybe I will collect it myself when I hit up the big apple for New Years Eve). I made it to the train station on Monday with minutes to spare... only to find out there was a 3 hour delay. I went over to the East Glacier Lodge, where I encountered the janitor belting out the National Anthem in front of the lodge(somebody needs to get him a copy of the words, lol). I bought a book of postcards to send to the fam and friends. Imagine that, could've had 3 more hours. Dammit Janet! I met some crazy midwest ladies that I partied with in the lounge car until 3 in the am. I cleared out the mini bar of the whiskey! You cannot imagine how hard it is to walk anywhere on a train (i.e. bathroom) after you've had 4 mini whiskey bottles. After 6 bottles I was lucky to find my seat (in the right car) and wake up in time to exit in Minneapolis. So, last night my best friend Tara took me to a local dive bar, where I proceeded to drink more whiskey (the double shots just kept appearing in front of me)... lets just say I ended up singing a lot of bad karoke (& I wasn't the one signing up to sing... I just jumped up and joined in) I also sang Sublime's "What I got" Acapella (It wasn't pretty) So, needless to say, my 4th has been a very mellow, lots of naps day. Heading up to the lake cabin tomorrow... the lake is called Sugar Bush. I'll let your minds go with that one! I catch the train back to Portland on Sunday night in Minneapolis for my 3 day journey back, then a few days of rest before I hit up the Deschutes for 5 days of debauchery with my girlfriends (bachelorette party)!
Anyway, as much as I am rambling about my adventures... I should just start my own blog! I have started to update the facebook.
Ride safe. You guys are rock stars!
By the way, who's winning at the pigs?
I'm going to hit the bookstore tomorrow to buy a non-nursing book. Maybe I'll find Fear & Loathing. Thanks for the recommendation!
Take care... I can't wait to keep reading about your adventures! I hope you find your cable so you can upload the descent!! (It's probably with my tent pole bag... damn marmuts).
Namaste, nl.
Hey boys! You got some great pictures of the park. Nada told me to check your blog out so I'm glad I did. Hey, who won Pass the Pigs that first night anyway? I think I passed you boys on your way out of the park but at 45 mph all bikers look alike. I was hoping to catch you at your site to see if you'd found the tent pole bag but apparently marmots stole it. What do I know. After I left the campground there was an incident involving the rental car and a largish size rock which probably has to do with an incredibly unrestful night in the drivers seat of said car. Anyhoo hope you guys are continuing to have an awesome time and I admire the hell out of you for going 100+ miles per day. Kick ass! Laterz!
-Karen (Nada's friend if ya didn't remember me)
